SBTI10 Coffee Shop Shows!

Join us for an intimate theatrical experience- modern juggling/object manipulation/new circus up close and personal! Each performance will be limited to 18 tickets, reservations are required.

The Shoebox Tour earns its name by creating a show specifically for the tiny environment of Brauđhúsiđ at Grímsbæ in Reykjavík. Originally intended to overcome the "business" part of "show business," the tour was imagined to take place outside of established theatrical venues- even playing in places "as small as a shoebox."

Brauđhúsiđ makes this mission statement a reality as objects will fly over the heads of audience members seated at the 3 tables in the eating area. Additionally, "close-up juggling" will be debuted in the same concept as close-up magic which usually using coins and cards for sleight of hand tricks. Close-up juggling gives new life to ordinary objects such as knives, spoons, forks, toothbrushes, wineglasses, and other surprises.

A live acoustic soundtrack will be supplied by Erik Nilsson, a classically trained percussionist, who will beat out rhythms and melodies with objects commonly found in a bakery.

Reservations are made by calling Solveig Thorbergsdottír at +354 698 7893.

Shoebox Tour Iceland: June, 2010!

Shoebox Tour was born 5 years ago as a direct reaction against "show business" trends which focus more on the business of making money and less on the actual show content. Our mission is to present contemporary Nordic circus to a worldwide audience in locations that normally do not have access to such esoteric art forms. Shoebox Tour produces artistically challenging work and gives circus artists the opportunity to take risks using experimental ideas without the pressure of commercial success stereotypes.

Shoebox Tour has been presented in North America (2004-2009) , Ireland(2008-2009), Finland (2008-2009), Sweden (2008), Japan (2007), and of course Iceland (2008-2009). Each tour unites a different cast which makes an entirely new and original creation. The 2010 Iceland tour features percussionist Erik Nilsson of Sweden, magician Erik Åberg of Sweden, trapeze artist Mirja Jauhiainen of Finland, and juggler Jay Gilligan of U.S.A. An original live music score, played by the cast, accompanies manipulations using objects such as teabags, newspapers, buckets, ropes, strings, rings, hoops, Japanese fans, peacock feathers, and even exploding balls.
